PROTEST..

June 20, 2005

Last Thursday after school, something you would’ve never expected happened in school. A protest that was held by the students against the mandatory military training during the summer. It was pretty shocking to see students able to stand up for they didn’t want. I saw teachers trying to break it up but on the other hand teachers allowing the students to protest. There were threats made by the school if you didn’t attend this training. Students wouldn’t be able to go up to their next grade even if they passed their previous grade. It was pretty shocking. My mother was against this training and there was no way that was she going to pay for this ridiculous event.

We see many protest held everyday around the world. Protests for peace, war, and many other things. Protests may lead out to good conclusions but sometimes may turn out very bad. People happen to protest to show the public how much they don’t like the new decision has been made and want a change to it. OR citizens are unhappy with something.

Now, a lot of foreigners who come to Dalian have trouble finding restaurants, bars, and even groceries they have back at home. I’ve had a hard time too. Eating Chinese food everyday made me sick from all that oil. It was very hard for me to look for something western. Dalian is not like Beijing or Shanghai where there are a lot of foreign products, bars, and western restaurants. There are few Western restaurants in Dalian.

Restaurants!

Most likely you would find western buffets in hotel buffets for about.. 100-150 rmb/person. On the other hand, there are nice places like I-55 and Hot Rocks. It’s a typical western restaurant but I-55 is like a lounge type where you can have some coffee and read a book. It’s on Gao Er Jie Lou not too far from the main downtown.

Yummmy..

Bars!

You won’t see “clubs” like back at home in Dalian. See bars with a dance floor. Like JD, Flying Bar, and Spark. JD and Spark is mostly hip-hop or techno. If your a foreigner in Dalian, you have heard of JD before. Flying Bar is a live Filipino band but has a dance floor where you can dance with the performers or even with your girlfriend! If you still love that head-shaking techno, you can always check out Banana’s.

After writing this, this topic was so random. Maybe I missed the “western” stuff back at home. Well, this was for the readers of this blog that are in Dalian, to give them a hand from their troubles finding “western” things.

School’s out in 2 weeks, I need to study for my Social Provincial!!!!

There’s so much fog here in Dalian. This city especially the Jin Shi Tan area has fog too often. It’s annoying sometimes just a pain in the butt. I hate it. It puts my mood very low and cranky very easily. The weather isn’t hot like last year. Around this time, last year was a hot steaming sauna haha. There is about two weeks left of school. I have an English, Math, Mandarin, and Chemistry final to take and then I’m GONE!

ever heard of this?

Saturday night at Bonzai in Pioneer Square, a nearly naked woman is laid out on a table. A chef slices sushi behind her, to be arrayed on her torso, bare except for a sheath of plastic wrap and some decorative flower petals. Chopsticks at the ready, patrons line up.

Summer plans?

1. Going to ChangChun (definite). Haven’t been there before but going there just to travel for 2-3 days.

2. Want to go to Japan. ( Not Sure)

STUNNING…

June 14, 2005

Started off with a very slow morning, by writing the essay part of my final english exam during first period. I spent a lot of time trying to organizing and setting up a layout for my essay. By the time I finished writing my second paragraph, I realized that my second paragraph was a perfect conclusion paragraph. HAHA? I had 20 minutes but I ended up writing a decent paragraph.

Now, some disturbing news. First, I got outbid on an item on ebay that i’ve been looking for over a week now. Secondly, Michael Jackson is NOT guilty HAHA. Next, summer vacation is barely over a month and have to pay 2000 pay for some BS military training. If you don’t take part in this acticity, you won’t be able to go to Grade 12. Is this a threat? Sometimes I really don’t know if this is a school or lame place just to waste money.

CHANGE OF PLANS! THIS IS WHAT I’M GETTING SINCE SOME @#$@# OUTBID ME ON EBAY =)

Here we are, another monday afternoon in the ASK classroom again. All the students here made an account here, but we surely don’t know what to write about! =P I see Peter here next to me who is about to fall asleep, Ricci on the other hand is checking her mailbox full of junk mail. This school year has gone prety fast. It seems like a whole chunk of Grade 11 is missing. I wonder what made this school year go so fast? I slacked off a lot fhis year and wasn’t able to focus on my studies a lot. The grades I recieve in Grade 11 is very important, but I should try to bring my grades up during Grade 12. Who knows when it will be the next time I’ll put a new post here. Hope everyone has a great vacation, see you guys in a bit.
